I had a great time at not back to school camp this year there were lot's of wonderful work shops and the projects at second session were outstanding there were some cool advents that happened too, we played a glow in the dark capture the flag game and at session 2 we had a scavenger hunt and a pirate commendation the whole camp participated and it was really fun camp this year second session was cooler we had a fire every morning of the week I wan't to go back next year but it will probably be my last year of camp anyway bye

we just got back from the fair and are relaxing at are friend Nancy's house for a couple of days. It's dad's b day and we are going over to are friend's Danny and Vicky's house for dinner. it's raining up here in Eugen and has for two days now. Eden really wants it to stop so that she can go swimming in the swimming pool here. I also want it to stop, because I want to have a wood fire and cook veggie hot dogs. O C F was pretty good this year and I sold a lot of my wool gnomies and bottle cap pins magnets. I made about seven hundred dollars from selling them. but I had to pay back my mom and dad the money for my camp.

we went to Franklin park and had a great time flying this butterfly kite around the soccer field my cousin Zephyr was especially into it. we went out to Mexican food afterword, and it was wonderful.

this is such a wonderful story book picture I really want to sketch this forest for my book I'm trying to write. It's about a fairy and an elf who are sent on a trip to get rid of the dreaded Knickerbocker. I really hope it terns out good because I want to complete a big piece of fantasy writing some day. Today we all went hiking here and had a wonderful time admiring the nature around the path.

Camp Rocks!

An essay

There is a camp for homeschoolers called Not Back to School Camp, and it’s really cool because a lot of unschoolers are together in the same place. It is situated up in Oregon, outside of Eugene. And there’s also one on the East Coast. I have been going to the Oregon sessions for three years and I love it every time because there are teens from all over the United States.

I’m going to tell you what other things I like about camp. There are fantastic activities, great group singing, cool friends you can make, fabulous food and entertaining talent shows.

The Activities of camp are a great way to meet people as well as being fun. There are so many to choose from like games, workshops, the camp prom, meetings, check in, Advisee groups and the projects. Check-in, meetings and the advisee groups are activities that you must attend through the whole camp week. It’s one of the few rules of camp.

The meetings are a great place to pick up information. They happen twice a day, one after breakfast and one after dinner time.Check-in happens before the meetings the campers line up and get their names checked off . What I like the most about the meetings is that we sing a song all together. We also plan the day together.

The Advisee groups are a way of getting to know the people in the groups in a closer and more personal way. There can be up to 20 people or less in one group depending on the group. The groups are lead by camp staffers, and the things that happen in the groups differ for each group. This last year I was at both camp weeks and so I had two different advisee groups. They were both great. Some groups play games together, and others might have a special handshake that everyone in their group has to do before they can come in. Some groups play with the camp parachutes, or they might have some funny way of doing the group check-in.

Games are one of the high points of camp. They’re great for releasing nervousness and for building friendships, also for making new friends. Some of the camp games include the cup game, big-booty, chain tag, parachute games and lots more. There are also team games those include frisbee, soccer and volleyball. You have to bring equipment for playing these games.

Workshops are great ways for learning new and wonderful skills like new dances (Lindy Hop or Swing are some of them), learning to sing, learning guitar, learning chess, and needle wool felting. Campers can lead workshops as well as Staffers.

The Projects are one of the best parts of the second session. They are led by some of the staffers. They are different from the workshops because they are on-going group projects that last for four days. The people who do the group projects have to stay in for the whole time. They are contact improv, creative writing, music project, cob building project and wardrobe funkafication.

Another big activity is the camp prom which happens near the end of the camp week. A lot of people dress up for the prom, but you don’t have to. You could go in sweats and a t-shirt if you wonted to. The music can be great to dance to; I tend to get tired out dancing just because my style of dancing is really energetic. Also, if you don’t feel like you’re a dancer there are nice couches to sit on, and you can always find another person who isn’t a dancer either.

Group singing is a fantastic way of sharing, and can really make you feel happy when you’re doing it. At camp, a lot of singing happens that’s not necessarily in a group at all. There are often people out in the field playing guitar and practicing songs, or just singing a song they really like. In the two meetings that happen every day of the week, we sing songs from the Rise up Singing Book. Some of the songs include “Lean on Me”, “This Little Light of Mine” and a lot more. Also, we sing circle chants that are really good for boosting your voice.
On one of the nights during the camp week, there’s a concert that happens. People play music and sing songs that they wrote themselves. My friends, the Lester brothers (Damian, Nathen and Gabriel), have a band called Abandon Ship and they perform along with different campers. I really like Abandon Ships music; I have all three of their albums, and love to sing along with the songs. Last year, I discovered my friend (Carsie Blanton’s ) new album called Ain’t So Green, and I have been listening to it ever since.

The Food at camp is wonderful. It’s really healthy and recently vegetarian. That’s really good because there are a lot of campers who are vegetarian or even vegan. So if you just absolutely can’t live without meat you are allowed to bring your own such as jerky or even tuna in cans, but otherwise you can enjoy the great vegetarian meals that are so fantastic! Breakfast usually consists of scrambled eggs, fried potatoes, tofu, pancakes, hot and cold cereal, plain yogurt and fruit. Lunch wasn’t a big deal for me so I don’t really remember it as well as breakfast or dinner. Here are some of my personal favorite dinners, spaghetti and tomato sauce with veggie meat balls, pizza with veggies on top, baked potatoes topped with butter, sour cream and cheese, corn on the cob and minestrone soup. There was always a salad bar and you could always get tea or water to drink.

The talent show is a funny and entertaining event, which happens five nights of the camp week. The talents vary from simple poems to drawn out skits. Some of my favorites are the skits because they’re often well put together and always make me laugh. People also mouth different songs and that’s also funny on one of the last nights of camp the staffers always put on a skit and it’s usually very funny. They perform a skit every year during both the camp weeks.

One of the other great things at camp is that you make great new friends. The ages range from 13 to 18 in campers. The staffers are older but you are welcome to be friends with them too. This year there was a conversation chart started. The goal was to have conversations with as many people as was possible, but they couldn’t be brief. They had to last long enough so that you could get to know the person better. Conversations can start on the way to camp on the bus, or in the car. I had a great conversation on the bus on the way to camp. I met one of the new kids and we hit it off. Every year there are new kids at camp and that’s one way I have made friends in the past.

So there are, as you have read, many fantastic possibilities at camp. Here are some of the highlights I mentioned above: activities, group singing, making friends, the yummy food, entertaining talent shows, the fun prom and the workshops and projects. This essay includes just some of the most wonderful things that happen at camp. There are many more possibilities besides the ones I have mentioned here. The ones I have mentioned are the best. So if your homeschooled and are look to have the best time ever come to Not Back to School Camp.

Hey everyone. Sorry I've been gone for such a long time but I just haven't been up to writing or posting in the last 2 months. In that time we had thanksgiving which was wonderful, we took a series of fantastic hikes around this time, as well. The season was moving towards the tale end of fall and the trees and landscapes of the country were just stunning. We started to move in to winter and the time changed. There were more rainy days and less sunny. We went on walks in the neighborhood. I started my class with Meredith and began to start on the Christmas season. Which included decorating our house with lights and making gifts for family. I was going to give my mom and dad a stocking this year and I needed to get things for that. Also I had to shop for gifts. This was the best Christmas I have had I got a lot of the presents that I asked for like a scooter, a new book, a coin belt for belly dancing and a lot more, but I enjoyed giving presents just as much. I gave my mom a purse I'd sewn at chops, and a fancy capo for her guitar. That was really expensive! I gave my dad a picture frame and a felted airplane I'd made him (he likes to travel) also a tiny painting on canvas board I'd done. I also gave my mom and dad fancy Christmas ornaments and hung them on the tree for them to find. I gave my dad a pickle and my mom a heart.
I gave Eden, my sister, a set of beautiful fabrics she'd wanted and a cute kitty calendar. Also a mermaid doll that she had really wanted one day when we all went out shopping.
I gave grandpa a picture I'd drawn in a frame I made at chops. I gave grandma a felted aminita mushroom. I gave Zephyr a little wooden box I'd painted a train on.
I actually sent out 24 christmas cards and seven packages for people from camp and made some gift boxes for a few more people like Meredith and Steve and Danny and Zoe. All this kept me pretty busy!
But it was a good Christmas this year. Merry late Christmas

We had Halloween!!

This year was the best ever. We made our house all scary with strobe and black lights and nine pumpkins at least. There were luminaries and two dummies. Some kids were really too scared to come up and get candy, but we had more kids than last year which was great. My sister Eden trick or treated and got lot's of candy. I stayed at the house and gave it out. I think that this was the best Halloween ever!!

Ailah came over yesterday and we went to chops. Chops is a teen center with an art room and a computer room. There's a snack bar and a climbing wall and lots more cool things like that. I mostly stay in the art room because I like that the best, but you can do pretty much what ever you want, and it's all free to do. There is an age limit 12 to 18 that is kind of a bummer, but I think it's great. I will have photos soon.

two weeks ago we went to san francisco for a blue grass concert. The music was great and we had a terrific time. I had another hiphop class on wednesday and that was great. I am learning lots in my photoshop class and making beautiful art. It was my great grandma's birthday saturday and there was a small party for her at the elderly home were she lives now, most of the famly came and she gave away paintings her husband (my great grandpa) had done. Aja came over that day as well, we went to the park with Zephyr my cousin and his mom Lux I had a lot of fun. we recorded part of a story me and eden are writing. we went to Zephyr's house today and I played on their piano and made oatmeal and raisin cookies.

Yesterday I didn't do to much because it was raining and cold out, I kind of just worked on my computer, and then watched a movie. But I did go over to my grandparents house with my sister for a little bit in the afternoon which was fun.

today was my first hip hop class, it was great! My mom is doing the class as well and I really fell like it could be a new passion for me, we will see. I had my second photoshop class today as well. We learned how to make a photo of a landscape we wanted, using shapes, it was neat.

Yesterday was my 17th birthday. I had an Ice cream cake, and my mom made a peach cobbler from peaches we got off a tree that overhangs our backyard. My presents were great! I got a laptop,
striped socks, a wool felted mushroom, $20 and a case for the laptop. Before the party I had put together zazu photos of the guests and I slide-showed them to everyone.

I'm Taking a photoshop class!

I had my first class of the year today, it was Adobe Photoshop. Today we learned about some of the tools that are used in Photoshop to make a photo look more zazu! It was so cool! We got to make this grandpa drawing all tripped out in whatever things we wanted using those tools I told you about. I am going to love it. I will have a photo up when I can.

Yesterday I went over to my grandpa's house with my little sister, Eden to make an apple pie. It was fun making it. We didn't get to eat it though because it needed cooling off before we could, but we get to eat it today! I took lots of photos and should have them posted soon. Also yesterday I played a cool game of frisbee with my dad. I'm considerably better after I came back from camp.

my Dad and I just got back from a long bike ride around the Santa Rosa JC neighborhood, it was nice to be out getting exercise, a bit hotter then I would of liked but vary beautiful, with blue sky and no clouds that I could see.

today my famly and me went for a beautiful hike to a lush lake with bull frogs and big old blue dragonfies, I think I saw a turtle but I'm not shure. The water was all blue and the sun was glinting of it, we couldn't swim or wade but it was nice anyway, we took a lot of photos which I should be posting soon. when we got back me and my sis played with pipe cleaners that I had made into fake glasses, pretending we were harry potter with his big old scar.
